It works by retaining water in the stool, softening it and increasing the frequency of bowel movements. It may take up to 2 to 4 days to work. Most important fact about this drug: Unless your doctor directs otherwise, do not use MiraLax for more than 2 weeks. Sustained, frequent, or excessive use can upset the body's chemical balance, and can lead to dependence on laxatives. How should you take this medication: Dissolve 1 capful or packet of MiraLax powder (17 grams) in 8 ounces of water, juice, soda, coffee, or tea. --If you miss a dose... Take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once. --Storage information... Store at room temperature. What side effects may occur: Side effects cannot be anticipated.
